Furniture made for one house. Yours.

Tables, kitchens, built-ins and decks, designed with you and made by hand in Cooroy from Australian hardwoods.

Build a table

Every table we make is cut to size. Choose the timber, the length and the legs to see roughly what yours would look like and who it seats.

  • Spotted gumRich browns with a wavy, rippled figure. Very hard and durable, so it suits outdoor furniture and decks as well as tables.
  • BlackbuttPale golden tones with a straight, even grain. Calm and modern, and hard-wearing enough for floors and benchtops.
  • Tasmanian oakLight and creamy with a fine grain that takes stain beautifully. Lighter in weight, ideal for cabinetry and built-ins.
  • Recycled ironbarkDeep red-browns with nail holes and history. Salvaged from old bridges and wharves, and about as hard as Australian timber gets.

Sample reviews, written for this demo

We chose the boards ourselves in the workshop. The table is the heart of the house now.

Every drawer closes like it should, and the blackbutt benchtop is just beautiful.

They made use of an awkward sloping ceiling we had given up on. Clever and meticulous.

JoanneBuilt-in robes, Tewantin

Took a few weeks longer than first quoted because of timber supply, but the finished deck is worth it.

DeanDeck, Pomona

Made from old bridge timber with the bolt holes still showing. It has a story, and I love it.

A two-person workshop in Cooroy

Grain & Gauge is a small joinery workshop in the Noosa hinterland. Everything is designed with you and made by hand, a few pieces at a time.

We use Australian hardwoods from sustainable suppliers and salvaged timber from old bridges and wharves, and we finish everything with natural oils.

Questions

How long does a custom piece take?

Most furniture takes four to eight weeks from final design. Kitchens and larger joinery take longer, and your quote includes a timeline.

Can I see the timber before you start?

Yes, and we encourage it. Come to the workshop and choose the actual boards your piece will be made from.

Do you work outside the Noosa hinterland?

Furniture can go anywhere on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. Installed joinery and decks are usually within an hour of Cooroy.

How do I look after an oiled finish?

Wipe spills promptly and re-oil once or twice a year. We leave you a small tin of the same oil and show you how.

Can you match an existing piece?

Often, yes. Send us photos and we will tell you honestly how close we can get.

Start a project

Tell us what you are dreaming up. We reply within two working days.

What are you thinking about?

Sizes, the room it is going in, timber you like. Anything helps.
